When I’m mulling over a sentence, or even a phrase, every word I put down is a bookmark, holding the place until the cleverer me deigns to appear.  Or the pithier me.  So, the sentence or phrase is an ongoing process.  If it pleases me on Monday, my Tuesday self will almost certainly be mercilessly critical.  “Who wrote this crap?”  And I’ll leave my office chair for the kitchen and start to tinker with what might become dinner...
